Speak 1

1. Analyze Melinda's reaction to the first day of high school and why her fears seem more intense than that of others. Analyze why she says, "I am Outcast."
Her first day of high school is awful I think and her fears seem more intense because she has no friends. And she is scared about what might happen. She says she is an Outcast because she has nomore friends. They all stop talking to her.

2. Examine the meanings of the "clans" and the prevalence of high school cliques. Why do we sometimes not like people who are really good at things, like sports, music, art, or school? Is this fair? Are adults like this?
The meanings of clans is like another word for cliques to me. If you act a different way then you be in a different clan. I think we sometimes don't like people because they are better than us in things that we want to do or accomplish. I can say adults are sometimes like that.

3. Discuss the "first ten lies they tell you in high school." Compare with your first day. So you think Melinda's assumption that they are "lies" is valid?
The first ten lies and my first day are kind of the same to me. We had an assembly and it told us like really the first ten lies. Not all of them are lies, so I don't think s her assumption is valid.

4. Examine Melinda's characterization of the teachers. What do these descriptions reflect?
That she like to name her teachers when she first met them.

5. Discuss Mr.Freeman's approach to teaching art. Have you had similar experiences in classes with this type of teaching style?
He like kids to express theirselves. Yes, I have had similar experiences in classes.

6.Discuss Melinda's home life. How does communication break down in Melinda's family? What could each person do to improve it? If you were a parent, how would communication be in your family?
Her home life is awful to me kind of. They barely talk to each other and they dont sit have a regular dinner for Christmas. Sit down and talk to each other or spend time with each other out and about. If i were a parent I would talk to my kids everyday and see how their day went.

7. Discuss the interaction between Melinda and Heather. Are they friends? What brings them together.
They just met each other. I wouldn't say they are friends, just something like associates. What bring them together is neither of them have friends.

8. Are we sometimes different people on the outside than we are inside? How? Why is this true, do you think?
Yes, because we would want to act this way on the inside but on the outside it comes out a different way.
